Lady Crusaders fall at St. Andrews

LAURINBURG, NC—Junior Crystal Olu-Taylor (Raleigh, N.C.) and senior Jessica Loud (Woodstock, Ga.) each scored to lead the St. Andrews Presbyterian College women’s soccer team to a 2-0 non-conference win against visiting North Greenville University on Monday.

The Lady Knights improved to 5-7-0 overall, while the Lady Crusaders fell to 3-8-0 overall.

Olu-Taylor put SAPC on top for good early with her team-high third goal of the season. After beating a North Greenville defender, Olu-Taylor placed the ball into the back of the netting only 5:33 into the contest.

The Lady Knights carried the 1-0 lead into the second half before Loud added an insurance tally in the 70th minute. Junior Jamie Gomez (Saugus, Calif.) set up the second goal with a long pass before classmate Tanya Darmanie (Santa Cruz, Trinidad) found Loud in the box with another nice pass.

St. Andrews held a 10-2 shot advantage and took twice as many corner kicks, 4-2.

Freshman netminder Jessica Brinkley (Simpsonville, S.C.) made four saves for the Lady Crusaders.

The Lady Knights will be back in action Saturday at Brevard College. The Crusaders will host Montreat College Wednesday afternoon.
