Kellogg Leads NGU to Quarterfinal Win in Conference Carolinas Tournament

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville began the 2019 Conference Carolinas Tournament with a 10-6 victory over the Barton Bulldogs. With the win, NGU will head to the semifinals in Mount Olive, North Carolina. Rachel Kellogg led the way with four goals.

1st Half (3-2 BC)

After a quiet beginning to the match, Rachel Kellogg put the Crusaders on the board with a goal around eight minutes into the game. Kellogg would strike again nearly halfway into the half to put NGU up 2-0. However, Barton responded with a goal to get on the board under two minutes later. With the next ten minutes going scoreless, the Bulldogs tied things up with a goal. They would then take a 3-2 lead with just under four minutes left in the half. North Greenville was able to get a shot off in the closing minutes in the half, but would ultimately trail at halftime.

2nd Half (10-6 NGU)

Approximately seven minutes into the second half, Barton struck first to lead by two goals. However, Hanna Hawkins ended Barton's momentum by scoring a goal just twenty seconds later. With just under twenty minutes remaining, Brenis Napoli tied up the game again with a goal to make the score 4-4. Olivia Foltz gave the Crusaders the lead back nearly halfway into the half. Nearly a minute later, BC evened up the score again with a goal. Napoli then put North Greenville back ahead with a score of 6-5. With around eight minutes remaining, Rachel Kellogg put NGU up by two with a free position goal. Jillian Chiesa and Aly Estes followed up with goals of their own to pull away. Barton put up one last fight with a goal, but just ten seconds later Kellogg wrapped things up with her fourth goal.

Individual

Rachel Kellogg put together a solid performance, scoring 4 goals and posting 2 ground balls. 

Brenis Napoli scored 2 goals and provided an assist.

Jillian Chiesa recorded a goal, 3 ground balls, and 3 caused turnovers.
