Tigerville, S.C. – North Greenville standout Monica Colwell will represent North Greenville women’s lacrosse this weekend at the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Star Game held in Sparks, Maryland.
The IWLCA All-Star game pits the best players from Division II against one another with 44 – players total, 22 on the North squad and 22 – players representing the South. 30 different Division II schools will be represented in this season’s game including three schools from the Conference Carolinas (Limestone (2) Belmont Abbey (2)). In all, 132 student-athletes were selected to play in three games from Division I, II, and III.
Colwell earned her spot in this season’s game and will be the first ever NGU lacrosse player, both men’s and women’s, to represent the Crusaders in a postseason all-star contest. She finished her career at NGU as the program’s leading defender. She cleared 25 – caused turnovers in her senior campaign, adding to her career total of 126. She also picked up 36 – grounders and finished with nine points on the season.
The Upstate native also added an offensive boost for the Crusaders as she scored eight goals on the season and added an assist. Her sophomore year was her best in the red & black as she led the nation in caused turnovers with 69 – groundballs. The solid showing earned her the title of NCAA Statistical Champion on the defensive side of the field.
The 2018 IWLCA All-Star Game will be played this Saturday, June 2ndat 1 PM. The game can be streamed online by heading to the IWLCA website or by CLICKING HERE. The game will be played at Tierney Field at US Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Maryland.
