Crusaders take down Chowan in final regular season game

Murfreesboro, N.C. – Hanna Hawkins scored a team high five goals while Sydney Taylor registered four saves in NGU’s 20-8 win over Chowan University.

Goals were traded in the opening minutes but a quick run by North Greenville earned the Crusaders a 6-1 lead. Hawkins and Aly Estes powered the quick run with two goals each. The Hawks tacked on a pair of goals in the final minutes of the opening half but NGU answered with eight more goals to take a 14-3 lead into halftime.

The Hawks opened the second half with three unanswered scores to cut North Greenville’s lead to just eight (14-6) but Madison Boudreau and Monica Colwell put an end to NGU’s small drought with a pair of scores to extend the advantage to 10-goals.

The Crusaders finished the game scoring four of the final six goals to secure the Conference Carolinas victory. Boudreau finished with four goals while Rachel Kellogg tacked on three. The Crusaders caused 14-turnovers led by Monica Colwell who had four as well as a team high six ground balls. Kellogg also added six grounders to her line.

North Greenville improved to 9-8 on the year and 6-4 in league play. The Crusaders will play in the Conference Carolinas playoffs on Wednesday afternoon at Pfeiffer University at 4pm.
