Crusaders Blow Past Wolves in Season Opener

Newberry, S.C. -- North Greenville’s Women’s Lacrosse began the season with a 19-7 win at Newberry on Saturday.

Though the Wolves would score first, Crusader’s Rachel Kellogg would answer back with her two goals for the afternoon shortly after. The Crusaders would get their second score this time from attacker Hanna Hawkins, who led the team in both goals and ground balls with 6 a piece.

With the score tied at 2-2, the Crusaders went on a scoring frenzy making 5 goals before the Wolves could respond, one from Aly Estes which was her only one of the game. Before the end of the first Hawkins would again score another 2 goals to make the score 8-3.

The Crusader’s second wind at the half would help them continue their hold on the Wolves. Keeper Sydney Taylor would have a fend off 8 of the 15 shots taken by Newberry and picked up 4 ground balls. Madison Boudreau would score a pair of goals at the start and Emily Colson would follow with one of her 5 goals.

NGU went another 4 goal unanswered run that started with Brenis Napoli’s only goal for the afternoon. Newberry scored in the final two minutes, they could not get anything started and only scored 4 times on the second half.
