NGU Drops Overtime Heartbreaker to Brevard

Tigerville, S.C. -- Monica Colwell scored four goals for North Greenville, Friday night, but it wasn't enough as the Brevard College Tornados earned 12-11, overtime win over the Crusaders.

The two teams battled to the tune of a 5-5 score after one period of play. The Tornado took an early 1-0 lead but North Greenville answered with consecutive goals to make the score 2-1. Sarah Smith would score the equalizer while Monica Colwell would find the back of the net with an assist from Emily Colson to give NGU the one goal advantage.

Brevard would score the next three goals to take a 4-2 lead, but Colwell would have an answer once again as she pulled the Crusaders to within one with her second of the game. Emily Colson would tie the game at 4-4 with her first of the season, leaving 4:39 left on the clock.

The two squads would exchange goals in the final four minutes. Brevard would go up by one, but Colson would tie the game again as her second goal of the season with 1:13 left on the first half clock would send the two teams to intermission all square.

Brevard came out firing in the second half as they jumped out to a 9-5 lead with four unanswered goals. The Crusaders would stay focused though and score the next three to pull to within one. Natalie Dufresne would score her first of the season while Taylor Kennington and Colwell would score on back-to-back shots to make the score 9-8.

North Greenville would find itself down by two points late but Kennington's second of the game pulled NGU to within one. Hanna Hawkins pulled the score even though with 1:28 left on the clock as she scored on a free-position shot to make it 11-11.

The extra period would take all three minutes, but the Tornados would take advantage of the final second as a shot from Ashlea Mann found the back of the net as the clock struck zero, earning the Tornados the last second victory.

Emily Colson and Taylor Kennington finished with two goals for the Crusaders who fell to 1-3 on the season. The Crusaders will host Pikeville College on February 29th at 12pm.
