Women's Lacrosse dominates St. Anderws to earn first win

The North Greenville women's lacrosse team got its first win of the season, shutting out the St. Andrews University Knights in dominating fashion, 13-0.

The Crusaders dominated play from the get go, scoring nearly immediately from the start as Sarah Smith netted her first goal of the season off a pass from Taylor Kennington. It would take five more minutes and four more shots before the Crusaders would find the net again as Smith scored her second goal on the afternoon with 22:27 left in the first half.

Goalie Sydney Taylor would make two saves before North Greenville's offense would get its third goal of the day, this time from Monica Colwell. Kennington once again fed the Crusader goal scorer, notching her first recorded assist on the day at the 19:32 mark.

Smith's third goal of the day came less than two minutes later as a turnover from the Knights led to a transition goal for the Crusaders to make the score 4-0. Colwell bagged her second goal of the game six minutes later for the last goal of the half for the Crusaders, putting them ahead 5-0 going into the break.

North Greenville started the second half on the gas pedal, scoring merely 15 seconds into the second half. Taylor Harnes scored her first goal of the season, as Smith picked up her first assist of the day with her pass. Kennington would get her first goal of the game with 25:53 left in the second half with an assist from Harnes to take the score to 7-0. 43 seconds later, Hanna Hawkins scored her first goal of the season immediately following a St. Andrews turnover.

The rapid attack continued, as 36 seconds after the eighth goal, Smith found the back of the net once again off a pass from Kennington to take the lead to 9-0. Goal number 10 came from Colwell, only 74 seconds later, this time with the assist from Hawkins. Hawkins scored again to take the game to 11-0 before Smith's final two goals rounded out the scoring for the Crusaders.

Smith paced the Crusader attack with six goals on the day on only seven shots, while also recording one assist. Colwell finished the day with three goals on three shots while Hawkins finished with two goals and an assist. Kennington and Harnes led the team in assists with two apiece.

North Greenville returns to action on February 19 when they take on Brevard College. The game is set to start at 6 p.m. in Pepsi Stadium.
