Women's Golf Set To Begin 2013 Season
The Lady Crusaders, returning with all five starters from a second place finish at last year’s Conference Carolinas tournament, are set to start their fall season on Monday at the Tusculum Fall Invitational at Link Hills Country Club in Greeneville, Tennessee.
The women will play 18 holes Monday and 18 holes Tuesday on the 5,850 yard Robert Trent Jones layout. The 12 team field includes pre-season top 25 UNC-Pembroke, SAC Members Lenoir Ryhne, Mars Hill, Catawba, Brevard, Lincoln Memorial, and Tusculum, Conference Carolinas Members King, Converse and GSC member West Alabama.
North Greenville finished out the spring by placing second in the stroke-play portion of the Conference Carolinas Championship tournament. With all five starters back in the lineup, the Lady Crusaders are looking to improve even more this season.
“The chemistry of the team both on and off the course is something special”, says Assistant Coach, Brad Caldwell. “The girls are coming off a very strong finish to the 2013 season, we have everyone back from our team last year and we have high expectations this year. We made some improvements to the schedule to compete against some of the top NCAA DII teams in the country. We have had some extremely low scores in qualifying thus far and I know the girls are ready and anxious to get started this week.”
The Lady Crusaders have a veteran filled line-up, starting with Seniors Anna Padgett (Etowah, NC) and Denise Shirley (Seneca, SC). Both ladies started in all nine tournaments last year. Padgett recorded 1 Top 20 and 4 Top 25, while Shirley recorded a solid 1 Top 5, 2 Top 20, and 2 Top 25. She also earned a spot on the All-Tournament team at the NCCAA National Championships where she placed fifth and was named NCCAA All-American.
Alongside the starting seniors, junior AnnaLeis Dibert (Woodbridge, VA) is striving to continue her successes on the course. Dibert, who also started in all nine tournaments, recorded 1 Top 5, 2 Top 10, and 2 Top 20. Dibert made two All-Tournament teams this past season, one being at the Conference Carolinas Championship in the spring.
Rounding out the all veteran line-up are sophomores Ashley Carrell (Texarkana, TX) and Callie Taylor (South Point, OH). The defending Conference Carolinas Champion, Carrell, joined the Lady Crusaders in the spring season. In four starts, Carrell recorded a Top 5, Top 10, an All-Tournament finish, and was crowned the Conference Carolinas Champion. Taylor started in eight events her freshman year where she recorded a Top 10 finish.
The Lady Crusaders made history this past year as they were able to bring home their first ever tournament win at the Cherokee Valley Invitational. “This is only the beginning of an accomplished, solid women’s team. These ladies have the fire to win and have tasted it, they now want more”, says Head Coach, Lew Soulsby.
Lauren Childs (Travelers Rest, SC) will be competing as an individual at the Tusculum Invitational. Amber Doyle (Fletcher, NC) and Paige Donaldson (Gastonia, NC) are both looking to help the Lady Crusaders in their successes this season, as well.

The Lady Crusaders will continue their Fall campaign in October at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational at Salisbury Country Club in Salisbury, NC, then the NCCAA National Championships at The Hombre in Panama City Beach, FL, and finally at the Rock Barn Collegiate Invitational at Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Hickory, NC.
