DIBERT LEADS CRUSADERS TO TOP 10 FINISH IN HILTON HEAD
Hilton Head, S.C.—The North Greenville women’s golf team turned in its second top 10 finish of the 2014 season, finishing the Hilton Head Lakes Invite in sixth place.
North Greenville finished sixth out of 18 teams, which included all 10 schools from Conference Carolinas. The Crusaders finished ahead of every league foe except for Limestone which took first overall after winning a playoff against Wingate.
The Crusaders were paced by AnnaLeis Dibert who finished the tournament tied for second with a two day total of 153. Dibert shot a 75 on day one, and followed it up with another solid score of 78 in the second round. As a team the Crusaders shot 663 as a two round total, after posting a 328 on day one. NGU added seven strokes to its round two total, carding out with a 335.
Denise Shirley also turned in a solid round as NGU’s only other top 20 finisher, checking out with a two day total of 163, which earned her a 19th place finish. Shirley was consistent on both days on the course, shooting an 81 on day one, and a 82 the following day. Her finish at Hilton Head is her best of the season so far.
Other finishers for North Greenville were Anna Padgett who raked in a 54th place finish with a two day total of 174, Lauren Childs who finished 60th after shooting a 175, and Callie Taylor who carded a total of 179, good enough for a 69th place finish, out of 89 golfers.
“I am very proud of AnnaLeis and how all of the girls competed this week,” remarked assistant coach Brad Caldwell. “We went into this tournament with the mindset that it would be a preview of the Conference Tournament, and I think we proved to everyone that we have as good a chance of winning as anyone. This should give us a lot of confidence a month from now in Greensboro.”
North Greenville will take a couple weeks off now, as it prepares to host its annual golf tournament. This year the Crusaders will host the Cliffs Intercollegiate, being played at the newly opened Cliffs at Mountain Park, in Travelers Rest, South Carolina, on March 30th and April 1st.
