Women's cross country gearing up for NCAA Southeast Regional race

Tigerville, S.C. – The North Greenville women’s cross country team will travel to Montevallo, Alabama on Saturday afternoon to take part in the NCAA Southeastern Regional meet, hosted by the University of Montevallo.

The Crusaders are carrying a great deal of momentum with them to Alabama as the women are coming off of a program-best third place finish at the Conference Carolinas Championships, two weeks ago in North Carolina. It was also NGU’s best finish of the season as a team.

Saturday’s regional championship is the culmination of one of the best seasons in program history with three top 10-finishes that also include a pair of finishes in the top five. The Crusaders also turned in a top 20-finish at the Royals Cross Country Challenge, a race that boasts 40-teams including runners from the division I ranks.

Head coach Cameron Stober will carry a solid corps of runners with him to Alabama, headlined by sophomore Kaleigh Roach who led the team in all but one race this season. Cori Small, Hope Whisman, Tori Davis, Amanda Ward, Rebecca Watson, and Nayeley Valenciano complete this weekend’s lineup for North Greenville.

Cori Small is coming off of her best performance to date for NGU as she finished first for the team at the conference championships. Her personal best of 24:23.16 accounted for North Greenville’s only top-10 finish of the weekend.

The Southeast Regional is posted as a 6K (3.7 miles) and is scheduled to begin at 9:15 in the morning. The top three teams and top three individual finishers not connected to one of the top three teams will qualify for the National Championship race.
