The 2017-18 season will mark the first season for Angel McGowan with the North Greenville women’s basketball program. McGowan will be instrumental in all aspects of the day-to day operations of the program but will work primarily with the perimeter player development, recruiting, and academic support.
As a student-athlete, McGowan played at Georgia Southern University from 2013 – 2017. Following her junior season, McGowan was named to the Sun Belt All-Conference Second Team – the first Georgia Southern women’s basketball player in program history to earn Sun Belt All-Conference plaudits – after averaging 14.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.1 steals per game. McGowan scored her 1,000th career point in the Eagles’ final game of the season as a junior, and was in the top-10 of the conference in multiple offensive categories. As a senior, McGowan was named to the 2017 Sun Belt All-Conference Team and was named the Sun Belt Student-Athlete of the Week by College Sports Madness. She led the team and was second in the Sun Belt in scoring with 15.7 points per game. She also scored 20+ points eight times (Clemson-22; Charleston Southern-22; Coastal Carolina-21; Troy-23; Texas State-21; Little Rock-21; Arkansas State-20; Georgia State-20).
In the career book, the team captain finished her career sixth in program history in scoring close to 1500 points, third in program history in 3 Pointers made and fourth in program history in Steals. She led the Eagles in scoring 3 years in a row and in steals for all 4 years. She had a great career as an Eagle while creeping into many top 5 records. She earned All-Sunbelt honors twice and was player of the week on multiple occasions.
Outside of basketball, McGowan is a published author. She has written two children’s books “STOMP Out the Bullying” and “We All Matter”. Her first children’s book was recognized by then Governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley. She has been recognized on many different levels for her achievements.
A native of Simpsonville, South Carolina, McGowan earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics in 2017.
