Mars Hill, NC – The North Greenville women (3-2) mounted a furious second half comeback but could not score a key basket in the final minute as they dropped a 75-68 road loss to Mars Hill (3-1).
NGU started as cold as the weather and quickly got behind 27-6 with 8:19 in the first half. However, the shots started to fall and the Crusaders trailed 40-22 at the break. Trailing 55-36 with 12:52 left, NGU went on a 13-0 run over the next three and half minutes to close the gap to 55-49 with 9:33 left behind Mindy Greenstone and Karly Stache. The Crusaders eventually got the Mars Hill lead down to one at 69-68 with 57 seconds left after a free throw by Greenstone. Brittini Young of Mars Hill then hit four free throws in the final minute to clinch the game.
Young and Jessica Blanford had a game high 20 points for Mars Hill, while Greenstone led North Greenville with 18 points. Stache added 13 and The Crusaders’ leading scorer, Amanda Milner managed only nine points and six rebounds, as she spent a good portion of the game on the bench in foul trouble.
NGU will host Tusculum Thursday, Dec. 4 at 5:30 p.m. in their next action.
