North Greenville Drops Conference Game to Barton

NGU took a 84-61 loss from the Barton Bulldogs in Wilson, North Carolina. The Crusaders were outscored in every quarter and were unable to stop a high-powered Bulldog offense. Savannah Hughes led in points with 15.

1st Quarter

A rocky start by the Crusaders allowed Barton to pull away early with a 14-2 run to begin the game. However, North Greenville fought back to pull within three points. A jumper by the Bulldogs with twelve seconds to go allowed them to lead by five as time expired.

2nd Quarter

The second quarter started off evenly, but the Bulldogs would eventually pull away with a 17-3 run to lead 44-23 with 2:21 remaining in the half. NGU would string together some much needed points to end the half, but would trail by 17 points going into halftime. North Greenville posted a 32.4 field goal percentage for the half. Karen Donehew led in first half points with twelve.

3rd Quarter

Both teams struggled early in the quarter with just one point scored in the first two minutes. The Crusaders put up two jumpers to cut the deficit to 14, but Barton responded with five-consecutive points to increase their lead to 19. Struggles would continue for the two teams as just eleven total points were scored in the final 5:40 of the quarter. The Bulldogs would take a 58-40 lead into the fourth quarter.

4th Quarter

Barton once again started strong with a 7-2 run. The remainder of the quarter was a competitive one as neither team was able to go on a significant run. NGU closed out the game with eight points in the final two minutes, but Barton would ultimately win with a final score of 84-61. North Greenville improved slightly in the second half with a 34.4 field goal percentage. Savannah Hughes put up 13 points in the half.


Savannah Hughes led in points with 15. She contributed in other ways as well with 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal.

Karen Donehew had a strong first half with 12 points, but was held scoreless in the second half. She also recorded 7 rebounds and 2 steals.

Journey Muhammed scored 11 points and recorded 6 rebounds, an assist, and a steal.


NGU returns to action on Friday, December 7th to face the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in Belmont, North Carolina.
