Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders began conference play with a 66-55 victory over the Southern Wesleyan Warriors. For the first time since the 2014-15 season, NGU began conference play with a win. Kira Bell put together a 22-point performance.
North Greenville led early 5-2, but a 16-8 run by the Warriors allowed them to pull ahead with a score of 18-13. The two teams would trade points to end the quarter with SWU leading 23-17.
The Crusaders would spend the first several minutes cutting into the deficit. A three-pointer by Karen Donehew with just over five minutes remaining in the half put the Crusaders within two points. However, the Warriors were able to open their lead back up, going into the half with a 40-32 lead. NGU shot 30.3% from the field with Kira Bell leading the way with twelve points.
Southern Wesleyan would score the first two points of the quarter to take a ten point lead, but NGU would then take over things with a 12-0 run to lead 44-42. SWU would eventually end the scoring drought, but the quarter would come to a close with North Greenville leading 48-45. The Warriors were ice cold in the quarter with just five points scored.
NGU began the quarter with a 9-4 run to take a 57-49 lead. SWU would cut the NGU lead back to four points, but North Greenville would refuse to give it up. A last-second layup by Savannah Hughes ended the game to give the Crusaders an eleven-point win. The Crusaders shot 34.4% from the field in the second half. Kira Bell led in points with ten.
Kira Bell had a solid game with 22 points, 5 rebounds, and an assist.
Savannah Hughes contributed with 13 points, 4 assists, and 2 rebounds.
Karen Donehew scored 8 points and recorded 11 rebounds, 2 blocks, and a steal.
The Crusaders will head to Wilson, North Carolina to face the Barton Bulldogs on Saturday, December 1st.
