HIGH POINT, N.C. - North Greenville was picked to finish fifth in the 2017-2018 Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball preseason poll voted by the Conference Carolinas coaches. The Crusaders tallied 55 points in the poll, which was announced on Wednesday, November 1.
The Crusaders finished the last season strong, winning five straight conference games, to earn the fifth seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament. In the quarterfinals, they fell to Barton 89-62, to finish with a record of 14-15 and an 11-11 mark in Conference Carolinas play.
Senior guard, Cameron Carter, and Sophomore forward, Karen Donehew were both on the Players to Watch list. Donehew was selected Freshman of The Year and All-Conference Carolinas 2nd Team last year.
Limestone College was picked as the season favorite, receiving 89 points, including eight first-place votes. King University came in second with 78 votes and one first-place vote. Barton earned 73 votes and one first-place vote to round out the top three.
Mount Olive ranks fourth in the preseason poll with 72 points, followed by North Greenville's 55 points at fifth. Following the Crusaders, Erskine and Belmont Abbey tied for No. 6 with 46 points. While Converse, Southern Wesleyan, and Lee-McRae all round out the coaches' preseason poll.
North Greenville will tip-off the new season when it faces the University of North Georgia in the Conference Carolinas/Peach Belt Challenge hosted by Francis Marion on Friday, November 10 at 7:30pm.
