Crusaders win second in a row

Tigerville, S.C. - The North Greenville Crusaders throttled the Bob Jones Bruins in their home opener 85-53 on Thursday behind Karen Donehew’s career game.

The only time the game was tied was at tip off as they would take the lead and hold it for all forty minutes in route to an 85-53 win over the Bruins.

The Crusaders and the Bruins spent most of the first period even going into the first timeout of the game with North Greenville up 11-10. NGU’s offense clicked fast after the timeout by outscoring Bob Jones 16-6 to close off the first period with a 27-16 lead.

North Greenville refused to let up in the second period on either side of the ball as they would score 31 points and only allow Bob Jones to score 5 giving the Crusaders a 58-21 lead over the Bruins at the end of the first half.

Freshmen Karen Donehew and Jessica Garlington would lead the Crusaders in scoring with 12 points a piece. North Greenville as a team would finish the first half with 13 steals and would shoot 47.7% as a team.

NGU couldn’t buy a bucket in the third period as they went 3-21 as a team. The Bruins were able to outscore the Crusaders 9-7 cutting the NGU lead to 66-37.

BJU found some momentum in the start of the fourth period by putting twelve up on the board in the first three minutes. But the Crusaders would pick back up offensively in the fourth scoring 19 to go on and take the game 85-53.

Karen Donehew bested her previous personnel scoring record with a huge 20 point game. Divonnie Powell led the crusaders in Blocks and Steals with 11 and 6. The Crusaders as a team would finish with 17 steals, 20 assists, and a shooting percentage of 37.6%.

The Crusaders will travel to Cullowhee, North Carolina on Sunday, November 20, 2016 to take on the Western Carolina Catamounts.
