Tigerville, S.C.—Alisha Hope led all scorers with 16 points while Timisty Nelson put 14 to go along with 11 rebounds for the game's only double-double, as the Crusaders cruised to an 82-53 win over Conference Carolinas foe, Converse College on Saturday in Hayes Gymnasium.
Tyler Powers also put together a double-digit performance with 13 points. All but one player scored for North Greenville in the double digit route as North Greenville improved to 7-0 against the Valkyries dating back to 2007. Kelcee Dozier led the way for Converse College scoring 11 while Margo Dill accounted for 10 points.
Converse jumped to a quick three point lead in the opening minutes of the game, but the advantage was short lived. NGU quickly regained composure as Tyler Powers' gave NGU the lead for good with 17:32 left in the first period. NGU spend the remainder of the first half building its advantage, leading by as many as 20 during the opening frame. The Valkyries would cut the lead by just three as the two squads headed into halftime for adjustments.
Powers led the first half charge for NGU with 10 of her 13 points, going 4-6 from the field including 2-4 from three point range. Alisha Hope finished the opening 20 with 8 and was 2-3 from beyond the arch. The Crusaders kept the pressure on the Valkyries in the first half, scoring 13 points on 10 turnovers while also dominating in the paint, scoring 18 under the rim.
The second half would be more of the same as NGU kept up the pressure and continued adding on to its lead. The Crusaders finished the second half, shooting 39.4 percent, but forced seven Converse turnovers, while also depositing 16 points in the lane to Converse's seven. NGU also collected 45 rebounds to Converse's 35 and 16 second chance points in securing the win over its conference foe.
The Crusaders improved to 4-8 overall on the season and 3-3 in Conference Carolinas play. NGU will return to the floor on January 7th against Barton College in Wilson, North Carolina.
