Tigerville, S.C.—The North Grenville women’s basketball team fell to 2-8 on the season and 0-6 in Conference Carolinas play after a hard fought 73-62 loss at the hands of the Barton Bulldogs, Saturday in Hayes Gymnasium.
Timisty Nelson led the Crusaders with 23 points and 8 rebounds while Alisha Hope added 14 points. Nyeshea Willie of Barton led all scorers with 32 points. Janae Jackson was also in double figures with 11 points for the Bulldogs.
The Crusaders led for the first three minutes of Saturday’s contest but the Bulldogs grabbed the with 16:30 left in the first period and relinquished it just once when the Crusaders gained a two point advantage with 9:16 left. The Bulldogs would battle back and regain a 40-33 lead by intermissions.
Barton would lead by as many as 15 in the second half, but a scrappy Crusader team fought back and pulled to within six (63-57) with 3:23 left in the game. The Bulldogs would hit free throws down the stretch to ice their sixth conference win of the season.
The two squads were even on boards with Barton holding a slight 39-36 edge on NGU. The Crusaders shot 39.1% while the Bulldogs hit 46.2% of their shots. The Crusaders will return to the court on January 19th, when they take on Pfeifer University at 2pm in Misenheimer, North Carolina.
