CRUSADERS DROP CONFERENCE OPENER TO BARTON
Wilson, N.C.—The North Greenville women’s basketball team dropped its Conference Carolinas opener and third straight overall as the Barton Bulldogs cruise past NGU 81-53.
Barton Claimed control of the game late in the first half when they Bulldogs went on an 18-1 run which spanned the final six minutes of the first frame. Barton carried the 40-21 lead into intermission. Barton’s Nyesha Willie led all scorers in the first half with 17 points on 6 of 9 shooting. Willie finished the day shooting 11-16 for 32 points to lead all scorers.
NGU was led by Freshman Tyler Powers who netted 12 points on 4-8 from beyond the arc. Rashmi Vanhook was also in double digits with 10 points for the Crusaders. Ashleigh Edwards led North Greenville with five rebounds, while Tierra Richberg registered two blocks and three steals on defense.
The Bulldogs kept their foot on the pedal in the 2nd half and led by as many as 32 points with 10:24 left in the game. 36 of Barton’s 81 points were a direct result of NGU miscues as the Bulldogs took advtage of 33 North Greenville turnovers. The Crusaders scored 15 points on 25 Barton turnovers while racking up 22 points in the paint.
The Crusaders will take a couple days to regroup before traveling to Mount Olive, North Carolina to take on the Mount Olive Trojans on November 19th at 5:30pm.
