CRUSADERS FALTER IN OVERTIME

Augusta, Ga.—Karly Stache and Christina Carlis both scored in double digits and Krisceda Cotton earned her third double-double of the season but Augusta State proved to much for the Crusaders as the Jaguars inched past NGU 74-67 in an overtime thriller.

Cotton, who has now scored in double digits in seven of North Greenville’s eight games, powered in 13 points and wrangled 14 rebounds en route to her second straight double-double.

Stache added to NGU’s total with 13 points, while Carlis led all NGU scorers with 14 points.

The first half was closely contested. Augusta State sprinted out to its biggest lead of the day with a 14-5 spot at the 15:37 mark. The Crusaders fought back and cut the Jaguar lead to just four at intermission.

In the second half, Augusta State once again gained a comfortable lead at 8 points. The Crusaders gained their first advantage of the second half with 2:19 left in regulation when Landrie Fox sunk a three pointer putting NGU up 37-34.

The Crusaders led 59-54 with just 1:52 left in the game, but the Jaguars converted an NGU turnover with 4 seconds left to tie the game at 59 to force overtime.

NGU took a quick 2 point lead in overtime, but Augusta State ended the final four minutes of overtime on a 15-8 run, handing the Crusaders just their second loss of the season.

North Greenville will wrap up the 2011 portion of the schedule on December 13, with a 6pm tipoff with Mars Hill of the South Atlantic Conference. The Crusaders will open the 2012 half of the season on January 3, at home against King College at 5:30 pm.
