Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville Women’s basketball team kicked off the new year with a thrilling 72-70 win over the Truett McConnell Bears Thursday night in Hayes Gymnasium.
North Greenville’s Karly Stache opened the scoring with a three pointer just one minute into the contest. Stache led all scorers with 23 points while going 7-15 from the three-point line.
Anjelica Wilcox was second on the team in scoring with 13 points while forward Erin Gray led the team with 10 rebounds. The Crusaders led just twice in the second half and trailed by four heading into intermission.
The Crusaders battled back at the beginning of the second half to tie the game. With 12:10 left in the game NGU would grab the lead and not relinquish it. North Greenville grew its lead to as many as 9 points.
Truett was not done battling however. With 21 seconds left, the Bears tied the game at 70. Krisceda Cotton would break the tie with a five foot jumper with five seconds left to give NGU a two point lead and the eventual win.
“It was good for us to get a win to open up the new year” remarked head coach Jayne Arledge. “Hopefully this will give us some momentum as we look to bigger and better things.”
The game between the Crusaders and Bears saw 13 ties and 10 lead changes. The Lady Crusaders will take the floor again on January 11th on the road at Southern Wesleyan University in Central, S.C.
