Cleveland, Ga.—The North Greenville Women’s Basketball Team ended a four game losing streak Wednesday night with a 77-70 overtime triumph over Truett McConnell College.
The Lady Crusaders trailed the entire first half and fell behind by as many as 12 points after shooting just 45 percent from the field. The Lady Bears took a six point lead into the halftime.
The Lady Crusaders began to cut into the Truett McConnell lead early in the second half and gained their first advantage five minutes in. NGU and TMC fought for control the remaining 14 minutes of the second half which saw 5 lead changes and a tie.
Both teams shot below 40 percent in the second 20 minutes of play while North Greenville outscored the Bears 32-26. The two squads headed into overtime tied at 66. North Greenville’s Krisceda Cotton broke the tie at the free throw line one minute into the overtime period. From there the Crusaders went on a 10-4 run to secure their second win of the season.
Karly Stache led the offensive attack for NGU with 15 points. Cotton registered her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Christina Carlis fell one rebound short of a double-double with 11 points and 9 rebounds.
The win improves the Lady Crusaders to 2-6 on the season. With three games left on the 2010 portion of their schedule. Their next tip will be at home on December 11 against Milligan College.
