Tigerville, S.C.—The Lady Crusader basketball team dropped its fifth straight game Thursday night as Wingate pulled out a close 80-71 victory over NGU in Hayes Gymnasium.
The first 20 minutes of play saw seven lead changes and two ties. The Crusaders grabbed the lead three times in the first half while the Bulldogs gained the advantage four times.
The final lead change with 2:32 left in the first half when Wingate took a 33-30 advantage. Despite a scrappy NGU team, the Bulldogs would hold on to their lead for the rest of the game. Wingate’s biggest lead was 15 points at the 11:40 mark. NGU fought back to within five points (67-62) with 6:34 left in the game but Wingate was able hit key shots down the stretch to pull out the victory.
Karly Stache led the team in scoring for the third time this season with 15 points. Raven Wamer scored 14 points while Christina Carlis (13) and Krisceda Cotton (10) also scored in double digits. Cotton also led the team with 9 rebounds.
The Lady Crusaders will take six days off for exams. They will return to action on December 8th at Truett McConnell with a 6pm tipoff.
