Tigerville, S.C.—Three players score in double figures and senior Nikki Wood reaches 1000 career points as the North Greenville women’s basketball team defeats Allen University 83-63.
Nikki Wood’s 1000th point came three minutes into the game on a three foot jump shot for NGU's first points of the contest. For the game, Wood accounted for 8 points, 4 assists, and collected 4 rebounds. The leading scorer for NGU was Karly Stache who scored 15 points. Whitney Smith scored 11 points and Christina Carlis scored 10.
North Greenville only trailed one time during 40 minutes of play. The team took the lead with 15:05 left. Allen tied the score once more before NGU began to pull away. The Crusaders lead by as many as 15 in the first 20 minutes but the Yellow Jackets from Allen cut the lead to nine at half.
The Lady Crusaders kept adding pressure in the second half and lead by as many as 24 with 1:39 left in the contest. NGU would go on to win by 20. The win over Allen is NGU’s third win in four games. “It was a good win for us” said head coach Jayne Arledge, “I think sometimes we lack intensity we just have to learn how to stay consistent and play hard for 40 minutes but anytime you can come away with a win it’s a good game.”
NGU will play again Monday night at home against Brevard College. The tipoff for the Brevard game is scheduled for 6pm in Hayes Gymnasium.
