Tigerville, S.C.—Four players scored in double figures for North Greenville and Erin Gray racked up 3 blocks as the North Greenville women’s basketball team collected a much needed win over Erskine College 82-74.
Senior guard Whitney Smith lead all scorers dropping 20 points and collecting 6 rebounds. Also scoring in double digits for North Greenville were Karly Stache who dropped 13, Erin Gray scored 14 points and collected 7 rebounds with 3 blocks, and Krisceda Cotton accounted for 12 points. Senior point guard Nikki Wood accounted for 9 points most of which came in crucial junctures of the contest.
The last home game of the 2009 portion of the schedule was a high paced exciting matchup which saw 14 ties and 12 lead changes. The Crusaders and Flying Fleet traded baskets for 10 minutes in the second half until North Greenville took a four point lead with two minutes left in the game. The Fleet were forced to foul NGU with forty seconds remaining and the Lady Crusaders responded hitting 7 of 8 free throws icing the game for North Greenville.
“We played with better confidence tonight and you could tell” said head coach Jayne Arledge, “we are a good basketball team and we have to believe that.” North Greenville will wrap up its 2009 portion of the schedule on December 17th on the road at Limestone. The Lady Crusaders will return to the court for the 2010 part of the season on January 9th at Wingate University.
