Central, S.C.—Senior Whitney Smith scored a career high 35 points and the Crusaders overcame a 20 point deficit but lost in overtime 100-92 against Southern Wesleyan University.
The Crusaders were down 18 points going into halftime to the warriors. Behind the hot shooting of Whitney Smith the Crusaders cut the deficit to tie the game and take a lead late in the second half. The Warriors would come back to tie the game and send it into overtime where they would come out on top outscoring the Crusaders 17-9 in OT.
North Greenville was outscored 49-31 in the first half only to come back in the second half to outscore SWU 52-34. Smith lead the Crusaders going 6 of 8 from the arch and 10 of 14 from the field. Karly Stache also scored in double digits with 13 and Nikki Wood posted 10 points.
“We came out flat in the first half and dug ourselves into a hole” said head coach Jayne Arledge, “Whitney [Smith] played a great game and we played hard in the second half.” The Lady Crusaders will take on Emmanuel College tomorrow night at Southern Wesleyan in the second game of NCCAA Classic at 5pm.
