LADY CRUSADERS FALL TO NEWBERRY ON OPENING NIGHT

Tigerville, S.C.—Despite cutting  a 17 to 4 Newberry lead to 4 before halftime, the North Greenville women’s basketball team fell to the Scarlet and White 88-66.

Newberry opened the game with a 24-7 run. With 9 minutes left in the first period, the Lady Crusaders made their move closing the half with a 20-10 run. NGU went in at half down 34-30. Senior Nikki Wood and Freshman Krisceda Cotton lead North Greenville scorers in the first half registering 6 points. Whitney Smith lead the team with 3 rebounds in the first 20 minutes of play.
The Crusaders kept the Newberry lead under double digits for 14 minutes in the second half. With 5:58 left in the game Newberry pulled away going on a 18-7 run to close out the game.  Nikki Wood lead North Greenville scoring 16 points and 4 rebounds. Wood also went 3 of 6 from the three point arch. Karley Stache scored 13 points going 4 of 10 from the field.
“We played a pretty good game tonight” said head coach Jayne Arledge, “we played hard and kept it close we just couldn’t pull ahead and put the game away.” The Lady Crusaders will be on the road for the next 4 games returning home on December 1st for a home contest against Limestone College. Tipoff is set for 5:30pm.
