With the snow falling in Greeneville, TN, the NGU Crusader women’s basketball team probably wished they could have been outside rather than inside playing 5th ranked (USA Today/ESPN) Tusculum University. The Pioneers (14-1) shot 70% in the second half to a meager 17% for NGU as they bounced the Crusaders (6-7) 107-53.
Coach Jayne Arledge said that her squad did not play with the kind of intensity necessary to compete against a top-ranked team on the road. The Crusaders were also defeated by Tusculum 74-57 in Tigerville on Dec. 4.
Freshman forward Jaleesa Gladden led NGU in scoring with 11 points, Nikki Wood added 10 and Amanda Milner chipped in nine points.
The Crusaders will next host two consecutive home games to try to get back in the win column. NGU will take on Allen University Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Hayes Gym, and will also host Chowan (NC) Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
