Amanda Milner scored 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds to help North Greenville past Chowan 64-62 Saturday afternoon in Murfreesboro, NC.
The Crusaders, after a tightly contested first half, pulled out to a seven-point lead with a minute and a half left. However, the Hawks battled back to get within two points. Chowan fouled NGU’s Jacquetta Golden with 15 seconds left, but she missed the front end of a one and one situation at the free throw line, and the Hawks grabbed the rebound. Ransheda Jennings drove the lane but her shot fell short and NGU held on for the win.
Karly Stache backed Milner’s efforts with nine points for NGU. A.J. O’Banion led all scorers as she scored 23 points for Chowan.
NGU snapped a two-game losing streak with the victory and pushed its record to 6-6 on the year. The Crusaders will travel to Tennessee on Tuesday for a repeat engagement with Tusculum College, which edged past NGU 74-57 on Dec. in Tigerville.
Coach Jayne Arledge’s team’s next home contest will be Thursday, Jan. 15 against Allen University at 5:30 p.m. at Hayes Gym.
