TIGERVILLE, SC--Mars Hill College rallied to win 79-73 over North Greenville University and spoiled Senior Day in Hayes Gymnasium. The Lions improved to 15-10 on the season, while the Crusaders fell to 14-13.
North Greenville University honored Debbie Wyatt, the team's lone senior, in a halftime ceremony.
The Crusaders rode hot shooting to a big early lead. Eboni Davis connected on her first four 3-point attempts as NGU opened a 30-9 lead in the game's first nine minutes.
Mars Hill slowly began to cut into the lead and closed the half on a 28-13 run to make the score 43-37 going into the locker room at halftime.
The teams battled in the second half, exchanging leads seven times. The Lions went up for good with 2:30 left in the game on an Allison Schafer layup. Brittini Young and Jessica Blanford both scored in the paint on consecutive trips down the floor for Mars Hill, and then the Lions made three free throws in the game's final seconds to hold on for the victory.
Schafer led the Lions with 22 points on 10 of 14 shooting from the field. Blanford scored 19 points, while Young and Shamia Terry each chipped in ten points.
Amanda Milner led the Crusaders with a game-high 27 points on 11 of 17 shooting, while also pulling down six rebounds. Eboni Davis hit five of ten 3-pointers to score 15 points. Robin Warner added 11 points.
North Greenville's season may not yet be complete as the Crusaders are still awaiting a possible at-large bid to the NCCAA National Tournament to be held March 13-15 in Oakland City, IN.
