TIGERVILLE, SC- USC-Upstate scored 47 second-half points to defeat North Greenville University 76-66 Thursday night in Hayes Gymnasium. The Spartans improve to 3-3 on the season, while the Crusaders fall to 3-3.
Kianna Smith led all scorers with 26 points for Upstate, connecting on eight of 13 shots including four of five from behind the arc. Three other Spartans scored in double-figures. Danielle Edwards added 12 points and nine rebounds, while Shavon Thompson and Ebony Johnson chipped in 11 and ten points respectively.
Amanda Milner recorded her first double-double of the year to lead North Greenville with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Audrey Toscano, Nikki Wood, and Robin Warner each scored 11 points for the Crusaders.
North Greenville shot 46.9% in the first half to take a 35-29 lead at the break. The Crusaders led by as many as 11 in the first half. Upstate came out strong in the second half, however, and outscored North Greenville 22-4 in the first eight minutes of the second half. The Spartans' largest lead was 17 before mounted a comback effort on a 7-2 run late in the game. Upstate held on for the ten point victory.
North Greenville will be back in action December 7th as they play host to Virginia Intermont College in Hayes Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
