TIGERVILLE, SC- Audrey Toscano posted her second consecutive double-double, scoring 24 points and bringing in 13 rebounds as North Greenville University outlasted Montreat College 86-66 Friday night in Hayes Gymnasium.
Two freshmen also scored in double-digits for the Crusaders. PG Nikki Wood dropped in 16 points, while Eboni Davis added 12 points.
The Cavaliers were led by Whitney Mace who scored a team-high 21 points, while pulling in seven rebounds. Shennelle Feather and Jonkia Stewart-Butler added 14 and 11 points respectively.
North Greenville took a 45-38 lead at the break on 54.5% shooting from the field, compared to 32.4% by the Cavaliers. North Greenville took an early eight-point lead, but Montreat pulled even at the 11:26 mark in the first half. The Crusaders expanded the lead to 11 with two and half minutes in the half.
Montreat pulled within four points with 16:22 remaining in the game, but could not get any closer. Despite shooting only 36.4% in the second half, North Greenville rode 14 second-half points from Toscano to the 86-66 victory.
North Greenville improves to 2-0 on the season, while Montreat falls to 0-7. The Crusaders will be back in action tomorrow night at Hayes Gymnasium as they play host to Benedict College. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m. Anyone with a Victory Bowl ticket will gain free admittance to the basketball game.
