Lady Crusaders fall at Erskine

DUE WEST, SC—The Lady Fleet picked up a 71-59 non-conference victory over the North Greenville University Crusaders Thursday night in Belk Arena. Erskine improves to 6-7 overall with the win, while North Greenville drops to 7-7.

The Lady Fleet trailed the Crusaders for the first 10 minutes of the game before a bucket by sophomore Kristy Vaughn knotted the score at 18 with 10:14 on the clock. A shot by Chacee Whittington from downtown gave Erskine a 21-18 lead, but North Greenville used a field goal by Audrey Toscano and a lay-up by Sarah Giles to take the lead again. The lead changed hands for the next several minutes until Giles hit a last-second, half-court shot to give the Crusaders a 36-34 advantage at the break.

The Fleet tied the score up twice after the break, and finally took the lead for good at 13:47 when a field goal by Melissa Woods put Erskine up 45-44. Erskine pushed the lead to as many as 17 points (71-54) before walking away with the final 12 point margin, 71-59.

Erskine’s Woods led all scorers with 17 points. Vaughn and Lisa Jackson also put up double figures for the Fleet, scoring 12 and 10 points respectively. Stephanie Jenkins chipped in 9 points.

North Greenville was led by Sarah Giles with 13 points. Amber Rector and Audrey Toscano contributed another 11 each.

The Fleet shot 51.% from the field (24/47) and 57% on 8 of 14 from 3-point range.
