Lady Crusaders fall to Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Brooke Underwood (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Amber Redding (Sevierville, Tenn.) posted double-doubles to lead the Tusculum womenís basketball team to a 78-55 victory over North Greenville on Saturday night at Pioneer Arena.


Underwood recorded 12 points and tied the TC single-game record with 13 assists, while
Redding tallied 10 points and 12 rebounds. With the victory, Tusculum improves to 7-1 on the season, while North Greenville slips to 5-3.

Two other Pioneers also scored in double-figures, as Chassity Martin (
Salem, Va.) netted a game-high 22, and Brooke Waddell (Greeneville, Tenn.) chipped in 14 points off the bench.

North Greenville was led by Amber Bramlett (Concord, N.C), who tallied 14 points and seven rebounds. Allison Robinson (Beaufort, S.C.) contributed 12 points and a team-high eight boards off the bench.

NGU led 7-3 with
17:28 remaining in the first half, but Redding sank a three-pointer to give the Pioneers their first lead of the game, 8-7, a minute and a half later. Tusculum never trailed again, and a 9-0 run built the Pioneersí advantage to 17-7 at the 11:38 mark. TC headed into intermission with a 37-23 lead.

Tusculum also maintained control in the second half, as the Crusaders could get no closer than 12 points down the stretch. Brooke Waddell drained a three with 7:25 remaining in the contest to extend the Pioneersí lead to 29 (68-39), giving Tusculum what would prove to be its largest advantage of the night.

TC out-shot NGU 43.8 percent to 34.8 percent, but the Crusaders won the battle of the boards by a 46-45 margin. The Pioneers connected on 41.4 percent of their three-point attempts, while NGU shot just 20 percent from beyond the arc.
Tusculum scored 29 points off 23 North Greenville turnovers.

The Pioneers will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Lincoln Memorial at
6 p.m. at Pioneer Arena. The game will serve as the first half of a double-header, which will also feature the TC and LMU menís squads squaring off at 8 p.m. North Greenville will next travel to Presbyterian on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. match-up.
