North Greenville University

Laura Ortega comes to North Greenville after serving as a graduate assistant with the Charleston Southern University women’s basketball program.

Prior to beginning her coaching career, Ortega was a member of the Buccaneers’ women’s basketball team from 2023-25, earning her bachelor’s degree in Human Sciences. Before transferring to Charleston Southern, she starred at Highland Community College, where she helped lead the program to the 2023 NJCAA Region IV Championship and earned All-Tournament Team honors during her final season.

A native of Spain, Ortega comes from a decorated basketball family. Her parents, aunt and uncle all played professionally, while both of her brothers and two cousins currently compete professionally in Spain. Ortega also began her own professional career at just 16 years old before coming to the United States to continue her basketball career at the collegiate level.
