#23 NGU splits with Newberry

Newberry, S.C. - North Greenville softball split a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday winning 2 - 0 while losing 4 -0 to Newberry College.

The Basics

  • Game One Score: NGU - 2 / NC - 0

How it Happened (Game One) 

  • Neither offense was able to get much going in the first half as the pitchers dueled to a scoreless tie until the sixth inning.
  • North Greenville was able to rally in the next to last frame as Taylor Koon and Kate Lee both singled in runs to give NGU a 2-0 lead.
  • The Wolves tried to rally in the home half of the sixth but Coffrin kept the Newberry bats in check, stranding two runners.
  • Both teams would go quietly in the seventh inning as NGU earned the non-conference victory.

Inside the Box Score

  • Taylor Koon finished 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Koon also had a double.
  • Jaelin Griffin knocked a pair of base hits in three plate appearances while Kate Lee was 1-3 with an RBI.

How it Happened (Game Two)

  • The Wolves took advantage of an NGU error in the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie. A booted grounder by NGU led to a 1-0 lead for Newberry when Tori Caldwell came around to score.
  • Newberry tacked on three more runs in the next inning when Tatum Johnson's three-run homer scored a pair and herself to make it 4-0.

  • The Crusaders stranded four runners in game two and were 0-2 with runners in scoring position.
  • Celsea Rivers and Brooklyn Stone both had two hits for the Crusaders while Grace DeBoer and Brooke Wade added one base knock each.
