Crusaders split non-conference series with Anderson

Tigerville, S.C. – North Greenville softball split a non-conference double-header on Friday with Anderson University winning 2-0 before losing the second game 4-3 in extra innings.

The Basics:

  • Game One Score: NGU – 2 / AU – 0
  • Game Two Score: NGU – 3 / AU – 4 (8-Innings)
  • Records: North Greenville 3 – 1 / Anderson 5 – 1

How it Happened (Game One)

  • Taylor Koon knocked in a pair of runs in the first and third innings with two RBI singles that scored Ashton Withers and Celsea Rivers.
  • Amanda Coffrin would, and the North Greenville defense carried the Crusaders the rest of the way, keeping the Trojans scoreless.
  • Coffrin finished with five strikeouts on the day while holding the Trojans to an 0 – 5 mark with runners in scoring position.
  • Coffrin walked the bases loaded in the top of the seventh but worked her way out of the jam with a pair of K’s including the final out of the game.

  • The Trojans jumped out to an early one run lead in game two with a solo in the second inning.
  • North Greenville answered back in the home half of the third when Celsea Rivers laid down a squeeze that scored Ashton Withers from third.
  • Celsea would around to score on the next batter when Taylor Koon added to her RBI total with double to right field that made it 3-1, scoring Withers along with Rivers.
  • Anderson tied it up with a two run sixth inning on an RBI single that scored Hamilton and Oxner.
  • The Crusaders had chances to tie or take the lead in the sixth inning but stranded two runners.
  • The Trojans tacked on the winning run in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly that scored Grant.
  • Ali Anderson led the Trojans with a 1-3 performance, scoring one run while also knocking in an RBI.
  • Harli Duncan earned the win, pitching four innings allowing just one hit with four strikeouts.
