Tigerville S.C. - The North Greenville swept the Lander Bearcats on Saturday giving them their eighth and ninth wins of the season taking both games with a score of 4-2.
GAME ONE NGU - 4 LANDER - 2
Lander struck first in game one after loading the bases up in the top of the second inning when Destiny Clyde singled out to left field sending Halie Sorrow to the plate for the first run of the game.
North Greenville picked up speed at the plate when Heather Wade reached first on a bunt in the bottom of the third. After being moved over to second on a well executed sac bunt from Shayna Finley, Wade took advantage of an error made by Bearcats Dariean Ward and found her way to the plate, tying the game up.
In the bottom of the fourth, Morgan Herlong singled up the middle bringing Kate Lee up to the plate. Lee put the ball in left center field for a double allowing Herlong to score, giving the Crusaders a 2-1 lead. The Bottom of the fifth was very productive for the Crusaders as Shayna Finley would send one over the left field fence scoring two giving them a 4-1 lead over the Bearcats.
Lander would try to battle back as the Bearcats right fielder Logan Leverette would send one over the left field fence to cut the game to two scores but Lander would not be able to come back and steal game one.
GAME TWO NGU - 4 LANDER - 2
The Crusaders started off strong in game two as Shayna Finley hit her second home run of the day as the lead off batter giving the Crusaders a 1-0 lead. In the third inning Megan Johnson would land on base after singling to third base. Celsea Rivers would plant one in left center for a double sending Johnson home for the second Crusader run of the game.
Lander would pick up steam in the top of the fourth as Madison Moore doubled out to right center allowing MaKenzie Smith to score cutting the Crusader lead to one. After a single from Brianna Surrento moved Moore over to third, Kelli McCormack would send her to the plate tying the game up at two.
North Greenville would soon take control of the game after Morgan Herlong stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the fourth as she would go on to hit a homerun over the left field fence giving the Crusaders a 3-2 advantage over the Bearcats. In the sixth inning, Samantha Anthony would tag up from third base on a deep fly to right field and score giving the Crusaders a 4-2 lead which they would hold for the rest of the game.
The Crusaders will host the Newberry College Wolves on Wednesday February 22, 2017 at 1 and 3 o’clock.
