Burlington, N.C. – North Greenville will have to work its way through the losers bracket to win the Conference Carolinas championship after dropping a 5-1 decision to Erskine in the first round.
Erskine took a 1-0 lead after an RBI single in the second inning. The fleet scratched across two more runs in the third to extend the lead to 3-0 while a two run fourth gave Erskine a 5-0 advantage.
North Greenville got on the board in the fifth inning as Celsea Rivers delivered a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Haley Gray to cut the deficit to four runs. The one run would be all NGU could muster though as Flying Fleet starter Candace Fitch allowed just one more NGU base runner in the final two innings.
The Crusaders were held to just two hits in the opening round, both from the bat of Jordan Willingham. Rivers had NGU’s only RBI. NGU stranded five runners on the day. Erskine distributed 12-hits over six innings of play, stranding eight runners in the process. Kayla
The Crusaders will take on King University tomorrow afternoon at 12pm on field four.
