SWEEP! Crusaders take two from Converse

Spartanburg, S.C. – North Greenville picked up an important Conference Carolinas series win on Saturday with a pair of wins over Converse College. The Crusaders earned a 7-0 win in game one and a 4-1 win in game two.

Jordan Willingham gave North Greenville an early lead in the first inning of game one as her double to left-center plated three runs. Celsea Rivers, Megan Johnson, and Kate lee would all come around to score to give the Crusaders a 3-0 edge.

Lee would score her second run of the day in the second inning as she reached and came around to score on a fielding error by the right fielder, making the score 4-0 in the second.

The Crusaders would tack on two more runs in the fourth inning on Carson O’Donald’s solo homer and an RBI single from Megan Johnson. O’Donald would also get the game one win as she pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just six hits. She also struck out six.

Game Two

North Greenville wasted little time jumping on the Valkyries in game two, as Megan Johnson would earn her second RBI of the game. Johnson placed a grounder through the right side to score Kate Lee, giving North Greenville a 1-0 lead early in the game.

Lee would cross the plate once more on Saturday, this time in the second inning. Her two run blast would score Greer Killman and give the Crusaders a 4-0 lead, following Killman’s RBI single earlier in the frame.

The Valkyries only run of the day would come in the sixth inning. Converse would take advantage of an NGU error to cut North Greenville’s lead to three runs, but Kayla McCarson would earn her first win of the season as she worked out of a jam in the sixth, and shut down the Valkyries in order in the seventh.

Johnson would lead NGU’s offense in hits in game two, as she was 4-4 with an RBI. Lee finished 2-4 with two runs and an RBI while Greer Killman was 2-3 with a run and an RBI.

North Greenville improved to 19-22 overall and 5-11 in Conference Carolinas play. The Crusaders will host Southern Wesleyan University on Tuesday afternoon at 2pm.
