Due West, S.C. - North Greenville fell victim to the Conference Carolinas leader on Saturday afternoon falling 8-1 and 2-1 to Erskine College.
The Crusaders pounded out eight hits in game one but stranded 10-runners. Jordan Willingham claimed NGU's only RBI as her base hit in the fifth inning drove in Traci Howell to trim an 8-0 Erskine lead down to seven.
The Fleet did most of their damage in the first two innings platting seven runs on five hits. A single run in the opening frame gave Erskine a 1-0 advantage, but a six run second would put the game out of reach. The biggest blow of the inning came on an RBI single that scored two runs.
North Greenville threatened in the sixth and seventh innings but stranded three-runners in each. Morgan Roach led North Greenville with two hits in game one. Morgan Milam was 1-2 as was Kate Lee. Carson O'Donald fell to 8-6 as a starter after giving up six earned runs in two innings.
The Crusaders finished with six hits in game two but once again struggled to score runs, stranding nine runners in seven innings. The Fleet finished with six hits as well. Morgan Herlong led NGU with a 2-3 performance with an RBI. Shayna Finley was also 2-3 while Greer Killman was 1-4 and scored North Greenville's only run.
NGU took the earl 1-0 lead after Killman scored on Herlong's RBI single to center field. The lead would stick until sixth inning when the Fleet scratched their first run off of North Greenville's Kayla McCarson. An RBI single would even the score at 1-1 while another base hit in the sixth inning would give Erskine its first lead of game two.
NGU once again threatened to even the score or take the lead in the seventh, but left the bases loaded for the third time of the day. The losses on Saturday dropped the Crusaders to 16-17 on the season and 3-7 in Conference Carolinas play. NGU will travel to Wilson, North Carolina to take on Barton College on April 8th starting at 2pm.
