Bristol, TN.—The North Greenville Softball Team suffered a series sweep at the hands of King University on Saturday after losses of 2-1 and 7-2 to the Tornado.
North Greenville trailed 1-0 heading into the sixth inning before Sarah Armstrong tied the game after scoring on a Morgan Roach single. NGU would strand two runners however as the Tornado escaped any more damage.
The Tornado would earn the game one win in walk-off fashion in the eighth inning as an RBI single would give King the 2-1 win over North Greenville. The Crusaders had just three hits in game one, led by Roach who had NGU's only RBI. Megan Johnson and Jordan Willingham accounted for NGU's only other two base knocks.
The Crusaders had six hits in game two, but scored just two runs as they stranded seven runners. North Greenville trailed 5-0 into the sixth inning but a double from Tori Freedman would cut the deficit down to three runs. Megan Johnson and Traci Howell would come around to score as the Crusaders cut the lead to 5-2.
The Tornado would answer with two runs in the sixth inning to extend the lead back to five runs. King added two runs on two hits but was aided by two NGU errors on defense. The Crusaders went down in order in the seventh inning as the Tornado wrapped up the sweep of NGU, dropping the Crusaders to 17-18 on the season and 7-10 in league play.
Morgan Roach had two hits for NGU while Freedman finished 1-3 with two RBI. The Crusaders will travel to Claflin University on April 14 for a double-header starting at 4pm.
