Tigerville, S.C.— Cassi Carpenter and Sarah Armstrong delivered late inning hits to lift North Greenville over Mars Hill in a double-header sweep Thursday night as the Crusaders earn wins nine and 10 with wins of 2-1 and 5-4 in non-conference action.

NGU and Mars Hill worked through a defensive struggle in game one as both starters held the offenses at bay. The Lions would plate the first run of the series in the fourth inning on a solo homerun that gave them a 1-0 lead. North Greenville would answer with its own run on a Tori Freedman double that scored Jordan Farmer from second base, evening the score at 1-1.

NGU pulled ahead in the sixth inning as Cassi Carpenter deposited a homer over the left field fence to make it 2-1. Carpenter finished the day 2-3 at the dish with a run scored and an RBI. She also took home the game one win after pitching six innings.

Anna Rogers earned the save for the Crusaders slamming the door on a Mars Hill rally in the top of the seventh, picking up two quick outs to strand a runner at second. Shayna Finley also had two hits for North Greenville in game one while Jordan Farmer and Christie Reilly also reached safely.

Game Two Box Score

North Greenville took a three run lead in game two, after plating three runs in the third inning. Tori Freedman put the Crusaders ahead with a three run homer that scored Jordan Willingham and Shayna Finley, giving her four RBI on the day.

The Crusaders remained ahead until the fifth inning when the Lions struck with their first long ball of the day. Robyn Stanek lifted a fastball over fence in right center to score three runs, as Mars Hill pulled even with NGU for the second time today. Stanek Finished the day 2-3 with three RBI and a run scored.

Emily Murphy would break the tie in the sixth inning with a solo home run, but a run from Mars Hill in the top of the seventh would eventually send the game into extras as NGU failed to score in the home half of the frame.

North Greenville would eventually come out on top however, as Sarah Armstrong would drive in the winning run with one out in the bottom of the eighth as she slapped a grounder between third base and short to score Michelle Brown, lifting the Crusaders to the sweep of the Lions.

Freedman led North Greenville in the second game going 2-3 with a home run and three RBI while Cassi Carpenter finished 3-4. Sarah Armstrong was 1-3 with the game winning RBI while Christene Phillips picked up her first collegiate win on the mound.

NGU improved to 10-6 on the season after Thursday's sweep over the Lions, effectively extending its win streak to four games. The Crusaders will put their 2-0 Conference Carolinas record on the line this weekend when they travel to Misenheimer, North Carolina to take on Pfeiffer in a 1 and 3 double-header.
