Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville softball team broke a five game losing skid Saturday Afternoon, sweeping a pair of non-conference games from Newberry College, 4-1 and 4-0 at Pepsi Field.
The Crusaders put all their eggs in one basket in game one, using a three run third inning to score all of their runs. Consecutive singles from Armstrong, Gray, and Reilly would load the bases. Cassi Carpenter would put NGU on the board with a single that scored Armstrong from third. Morgan Roach also delivered an RBI single for NGU.
Jordan Farmer would cap the North Greenville scoring with an RBI double that scored Roach and Carpenter and gave NGU a 4-0 lead. Carpenter, who also got the start in the circle for North Greenville would keep the Newberry bats at bay, for much of the game, allowing just three hits in a complete game outing. The Wolves scored their only run of the game in the sixth inning on a solo homerun from Mallory Gern.
Anna Rogers closed the door on the Wolves in the seventh allowing just one hit; as NGU picked up its first win since opening weekend. Christie Reilly led NGU with two hits and a run scored in game one, while Jordan Farmer led all hitters with two RBI going 1-2 at the dish.
The Crusaders used the same approach of offense in game two, scoring four runs in the first while relying on solid pitching and defense the rest of the way. The Crusaders scored four runs on four hits; Jordan Farmer once again delivered a two RBI double to get NGU on the board. She was proceeded by Morgan Roach who connected for her second home run of the season, this time a two run blast that extended the lead to 4-0.
The four run first would be all the Crusaders needed as Sarah Armstrong earned her first win of the season from the pitchers circle. Armstrong pitched seven complete innings, giving up six hits while striking out two. NGU's defense backed Armstrong as NGU worked its way out of several jams, forcing seven stranded Newberry runners.
Farmer was 2-3 with two RBI once again in NGU's game two win, while Morgan Roach was 1-3 with a two RBI home run. Christie Reilly delivered her second two hit game of the day, while Sarah Armstrong helped her own cause, going 1-3 with a run scored.
North Greenville is now 3-5 on the season after the Saturday sweep of the Wolves. NGU will return to action February 17th at 2pm against Brevard College.
