Banner Elk, NC – The North Greenville softball team widened its lead in the western division of Conference Carolinas by shutting out second place Lees McRae 3-0 and 4-0 on the road Tuesday afternoon. The Crusaders pushed their season record to 17-5 overall, and a perfect 12-0 in conference action.
Rachel Glazebrook hurled a near perfect one hitter and struck out 14 in game one, and outdueled Lees McRae’s Laurel Gregg, who also had a one-hitter. NGU capitalized on four errors by the Bobcats in the top of the seventh inning to score all three of its runs.
Sarah Armstrong ripped a two-run triple in the sixth inning, and North Greenville once again took advantage of key errors by the Bobcats to add two more runs in the seventh inning. Junior Laura Hopper won her first game with a four-hitter for NGU. Armstrong led the way at the plate with a 2-4 performance, and Marielena Santos also was 2-4. Eight Crusaders had hits the game.
NGU, which ran its new win streak to four games, will travel to Belmont Abbey this Saturday, March 31 for a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. The Crusaders will host Queens College (NC) in their next home series on Monday, April 2 at 2:00 p.m.
