Tigerville, SC – Kelsey Davis had a grand slam in the third inning and Jaime Presnell added a two run blast in the first inning of game one, and Chasity Davis blasted a two run shot in the fourth inning of game two as Lander (17-17) snapped North Greenville’s 12-game winning streak in a non-conference softball doubleheader at the Crusader Softball Complex. Lander doubled up NGU (15-5) 7-1 and 6-1.
Presnell, Lander’s third batter, got them on the scoreboard quickly as she ripped a shot over the leftfield fence to put the Senators up 2-0. Presnell followed with her grand slam that knocked out NGU ace Rachel Glazebrook in the fourth. Glazebrook saw her six game win streak on the mound broken. She was relieved by Cassi Carpenter, who gave up only one run in the final four innings for NGU. Presnell was 3-4 for Lander with 2 RBI’s, and Davis was 1-3 with five RBI’s. Hayley Leissner (9-10) got the win for Lander by holding NGU to one run, which came when Courtney Campbell scored on a throwing error in the second inning.
Game two saw a similar scenario for NGU as Chasity Davis went 3-4 with three RBI’s, including a two run homer in the fourth inning. Amy Nagel recorded North Greenville’s only run with a solo homer (her fourth of the year) in the sixth inning. Courtney Campbell went 2-3. Laura Hopper absorbed the loss on the mound for NGU despite scattering seven Lander hits.
North Greenville will travel to Southern Wesleyan Saturday, March 24 for a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. During their lengthy home stand, the Crusaders went 12-2 and now lead the western division of Conference Carolinas with a 10-0 record.
