Bristol, Tenn. – The Lady Crusader softball team finished the 2011 season in winning fashion after splitting a doubleheader with King College on Tuesday afternoon. King defeated North Greenville 9-0 in the first game before the Lady Crusaders responded with a 8-5 in game two.
Taylor Roof started on the mound and picked up the loss after pitching a complete game, allowing nine runs (six earned) on seven hits while recording seven strikeouts. The Lady Crusader defense committed three errors in the game.
On offense, North Greenville was held to just one hit in the game. Marielena Santos picked up the lone hit with a first inning single.
The Lady Crusaders flipped the script in game two, compiling eight runs on eight hits to end the regular season with a victory.
Laura Hopper started game two on the mound and pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on five hits while recording one strikeout. Courtney Campbell picked up the win after pitching 3 2/3 innings of relief, allowing no runs and only two hits.
Roof led the North Greenville offense as she finished game two 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, one RBI and one run scored. Santos had another strong game, going 2-for-5 with two runs scored, while Emily Campbell was 1-for-3 with three RBI. Sarah Griffith and Rachel Holeman each picked up an RBI in the game.
The Lady Crusaders finished the 2011 regular season with a 16-23 record. North Greenville will host the NCCAA South Regional Tournament on May 6-7. The tournament schedule will be released at a later date.
