Banner Elk, N.C. – The North Greenville softball team swept a doubleheader against future Conference Carolinas opponent Lees-McRae College on Tuesday afternoon, 6-5 and 7-5.
In game one, the Lady Crusader offense totaled 10 hits, four of which were extra-base hits, including two doubles, one triple and a homerun. Taylor Roof lead the offense as she finished the day 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored. Roof hit her team-leading fourth homerun of the season in the fourth inning. Marielena Santos continued her recent hot streak and finished the day 1-for-2 with a triple and two RBI, while Kansas Wofford was 1-for-4 at the plate with an RBI.
Roof (5-7) started game one and pitched a complete game, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out a season high 10 batters. In game two, the Lady Crusaders held a seven run advantage in the seventh inning and were able to hold off a late-inning, five-run rally by the Lady Bobcats to secure the victory.
Kimberly Robertson (2-0) pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed five runs on seven hits while striking out three. Roof picked up her first save of the season as she pitched a scoreless 2/3 inning to end the game.
Karli Taylor was the offensive leader in game two as she finished the game 1-for-3 with a homerun and three RBI. Roof had another strong game, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Robertson was a perfect 4-for-4 including two doubles and a run scored. Wofford and Laura Hopper also finished the game with one RBI apiece.
The Lady Crusaders (8-14) will look to build on their two-game winning streak when they host Lincoln Memorial University in a doubleheader on March 25 beginning at 2 p.m.
