Tigerville, S.C. – The North Greenville softball team’s winning streak came to an end as it dropped a doubleheader to Milligan College 2-1 and 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
In game one, each team scored one run in the first inning but Milligan was able to plate the eventual game-winning run in the third inning on a bases loaded walk.
Taylor Roof (4-6) started game one and pitched all seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out four batters. Roof’s only downfall was control issues as she walked six Milligan batters in the game.
Kansas Wofford led the Lady Crusader offense, finishing the day 1-for-3 with one run scored and an RBI. Wofford’s only hit was a solo home run in the first inning. Kimberly Robertson and Emily Campbell also had strong games as they finished 2-for-3 at the plate.
In game two, North Greenville was unable to get any positive production on offense as Milligan held the Lady Crusaders to just five hits in the game.
Laura Hopper (1-2) picked up the loss after pitching a complete game and allowing five runs on eight hits while recording six strikeouts.
Robertson and Marielena Santos led the Lady Crusaders on offense as each player finished the game 2-for-2. Robertson’s performance included a sixth inning double, her second of the season.
The two losses move North Greenville’s record to 6-12 on the season. The Lady Crusaders next game will be on the road in Greenwood, S.C. as they take on Lander University in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. on March 18.
