Tigerville, S.C. – The North Greenville softball team’s offense finally came alive as the Lady Crusaders swept the Lady Knights of St. Andrews College 9-0 and 2-1 in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
In game one, the Lady Crusaders took advantage of three St. Andrews errors and scored four runs in the second inning and five runs in the ninth to secure the win.
Kansas Wofford led the offensive charge for North Greenville as she finished the game 1-for-3, including a three-run home run in the second inning. Wofford finished with five RBI and one run scored. Sarah Griffith also had a home run in the second inning and finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Karli Taylor, Marielena Santos and Kimberly Robertson each finished with one RBI in the game.
Taylor Roof and Courtney Campbell combined to hold the Lady Knights to just two hits in the first game victory. Roof (4-5) picked up the win as she pitched three innings and allowed one hit while striking out five. Campbell pitched the final two innings and allowed one hit while striking out three batters.
The Lady Crusaders carried the momentum into the second game of the day to pick up the one-run victory. After scoring one run in the second and fifth innings, North Greenville held off a late rally by St. Andrews in the seventh and final inning of play.
Laura Hopper (1-1) got the start in game two and pitched four innings of no-hit softball while striking out two. Kimberly Robertson pitched three innings of relief and allowed one run on three hits while recording three strikeouts.
At the plate, Campbell led the team going 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Roof was 1-for-1 with an RBI. Robertson and Taylor scored one run a piece for North Greenville.
The Lady Crusaders (6-10) will look to build on their two-game winning streak when they host Milligan College on Wednesday, March 16 in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
